Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Little museum with a great collection of everything connected to firefighting from around the world. You can also have a look at all kinds of old fire trucks. Very informative tour with Brian who will answer all your questions. And all that for just a small donation. Highly recommend.

We spotted this as we drove past and thought we would drop in and check it out. What an amazing job this man has done collating this collection.
Make sure you leave plenty of time to explore because there is such a lot to see.

We live in the 'orange zone' near a National Park and greatly appreciate the efforts if firefighters in controlling bushfires, We also have a grandson who is just crazy about fire engines and firemen, so this was an absolute "must do" for us!

The museum has good collection of real new Zealand fire appliances, fittings, uniforms and fire fighting miscellania, plus an truly amazing number of model fire engines from around the world. There are literally hundreds of models across a great range of scales, up to ~1:16.

There is no fee for visiting but a donation is appreciated.

We spent over an hour wandering through the exhibits and were free to photograph everything. It was fascinating.

This little museum was one of the highlights of our entire trip to New Zealand. Actually, it isn't that little. It's amazing what one man has done with his devotion and a lifetime of collecting. Brian Denton and his wife, Lesley, have created exceptional displays of everything firefighting-related from trucks to uniforms & badges to maps to model fire engines, all from around the world. And Brian is a walking encylopedia of knowledge and history! Fascinating to talk to and a priceless guide. We spent an entire afternoon with him ...... all for a donation. It's a little bit off the tourist track, but well worth finding!

Even for non-fireys, this is a fantastic museum. Open to all for only a donation, but give a good one as it is a great museum with heaps of displays. The building is deceptive, we just couldn't believe how big the displays were, NZ Firefighters, International Firefighters, half a dozen working trucks. Don't miss this if you are heading down SH1, just north of Okaihau. It is one mans obsession (he is of course in the local volunteer brigade).
