A "must see" location if you like castles - the area around Bourscheid is very picturesque and worthy of the twisting drive to get there.

The core of castle Bourscheid was built around the year 1000 in replacement of an older wooden fortification. The castle was enlarged around 1250 and again around 1350, when the great enclosure with eight towers was erected. Thus a new (lowest) court was created where the vassals of the landlord lived. The architectural evolution of the castle was finalized by... More

This is a ruined castle, but a big one. The view from the top of the tower is magnificent, you can see the entire valley. One of the buildings has been renovated, you can see some of the history of the castle there. And some drawings by Victor Hugo.

Beatiful and relatively easy to reach from the capital. They have audioguides in many languages.

It closes at 4 p.m. in the winter months and we just made it on time. We had to rush through it and we didn't have the time to read the history etc.

The tour is wet to get around with the snow since they don't really keep it easily walkable. Wear waterproof shoes in Feb or if there is snow on the ground. This was one of the most interesting castles I've been in however it needs more restoration. Although its nice to see the way they found it, it's hard to... More

A recent visit to Bourscheid castle exceeded expectations. Entry prices were very inexpensive and included an audio tour which comes in several different languages. My kids ages 5 and 9 were both able to navigate the ruins with the audio tour and learned quite a bit. The ruins are expansive and kids can easily explore throughout. We explored for a... More

Set on a hill, this was an extensive ruin which fit nicely with the morning fog all around. It gave a mysterious feel to the place. The castle has a self guided tour with an English translation sheet. It passes through a number of ruined dwellings of which little remains including a chapel, kitchen and courtyards associated with the upper... More
