This National Trust site, consists of the House, the Gardens and the Tower. The House itself is not so impressive outside (scaffolding in place, same as everywhere in/around Salisbury it seems), but very impressive inside. We arrived late in the day, so we had to choose: house, or gardens? We chose gardens, and have no regrets. I imagine it would be even more scenic when the flowers are blooming and the trees have leaves. The only downside was the gardeners were burning a brush pile, you can see smoke in some of our pictures. more

We visited the estate and gardens on May 2nd, 2007. We just about crossed Stourhead off our list, but decided to make it happen and we are so glad we did. We were not planning on visiting Stourhead on our 30 day drive around England & Scotland. WHAT A MISTAKE! Fortunately we had an afternoon free before leaving Bath & had a look in our British Heritage Pass book for something close by.
