Part of the castleton cavern / mines system but this one is situated out of the village and accessed from above Winnats Pass and next to Mam Tor (shivering mountain) where the road has been cut off due to landslip. There is a good parking area with good views down the Hope Valley. The cavern experience is interesting if you... More

Very good but doesn't take very long to go round and is expensive for what it is.

From the outside the Blue John Cavern appears to be a small shop on the top of a hill. However, once you descend into the stone stair cavern you are immediately in awe of the forces of nature carving out a system of underground caves. Our tour guide (Ryan) was friendly, knowledgeable and always putting the safety of the group... More

This cavern showcases the beautiful Blue John Stone. Tour is informative and not too hard to do. Note, buy Blue John jewellery is expensive if you buy it from the gift shop. Look for some in Castleton.

We paid the student price of 7 pounds and for that, I was not disappointed in the 50 minute visit. It is an educaitonal visit with information about the rock was formed. I have heard that Blue John is the best of the 4 caverns in the area as it does show a bit of the Blue John stone and... More

Going round these caves as a child is one of my earliest memories of a Peak District holiday. Now I have just taken my own children there. I felt so pleased to find it very little changed, and still brought to life by the tales and interest of a fantastic guide who mines Blue John when not showing visitors round.... More

These caves are amazing and would be good for young children and teens to see, loads of history, told by the wonderful guides. The surrounding area to the caves is stunning and has fantastic walks/scenery.
