We went to Cotehele with our grandchildren aged 7 and 4 and had a great day out. The staff were very welcoming and really engaged with the children. They both did the little quizz, finding the pictured items in each room, that kept their interest very well. They loved crawling into the 'children only' secret room, that was a very... More

We visited Cotehele on a dreary wet day. As minimal electric light is used it was quite dark inside. However, this made it all the more atmospheric and the history more palpable. It is an eclectic house very well presented.

The guidebook warns you to plan for a long visit as there is so much to see and do, and golly, that's right! The house is fascinating, and one of the most engaging National Trust houses I have visited. The gardens were lovely, beautifully maintained, and after a poor start to the year, the planting was coming into bloom and... More

This is one of the most unique houses in the UK. It was left untouched by the original owners as they moved into more fashionable house. This house was then used as a depository for old unfashionable furniture and other house items. It was thjerefore untouched and in the original state. It is definitely worth the visit. We had to come... More

We have visited Cotehele 5 times (so far), staying in Retainer's Court 3 times and most recently Hall Court. Both are well appointed NT apartments, giving fantastic access to Cotehele, especially outside of visitor hours. Retainer's Court is more generous in size than Hall Court. The latter is a little difficult to relax in if you are tall as the... More

We visited on May bank holiday Monday, on rather a misty dull day, and were surprised to find it wasn't very busy or crowded. The house is remarkably untouched since the 1600s, with lovely old furniture, lots of dark corners to explore, a remarkable chapel and a scary ghost story. The staff were eager to share their knowledge and the... More

We visited Cotehele towards the end of the Easter holidays. It was a very wet day but we enjoyed the walk from the main house down to the quay (via the little church) with our dog. We sheltered in the information centre for at least an hour whilst the hail fell, with lots to keep our children entertained (aged 4... More

We visited Cotehele on a bank holiday weekend but were surprised there were not many people there. The access road is a bit narrow but once there you have a choice of three sites, the main house, the quay and a working mill. The whole experience was very worthwhile and if you do not fancy walking between the sites there... More

It really is a good day out, and we only allowed half a day!! The mill was working and the workshops (potter etc) were busy, these were great to see but a fair distance from the house. There is a good shuttle service to and from the house to the mill, but it was lovely to walk down. This left... More
