It's free to see. The OPW guide was very informative and friendly. He also gave us pointers of other places nearby to visit

Lovely trip to Boyle in Co. Roscommon in March. What a beautiful week of weather we got too. Temperatures soared to 23 degrees Celcius and the sun shone throughout the day. The area of Boyle is quaint. The town is reminiscent of a time since passed. The river and the ajoining park is lovely. you can also walk to the... More

Clean-up and restoartion of north wall in recent times, plus the addition of a glass lean-to to protect the structure make this a must see. If you are interested in history, particularly of this area, go and see it.

The long-running repairs and renovations have now been completed [late 2011] and we look forward to seeing the abbey without scaffolding for the first time for years when we return to Boyle in September 2012.. The eastern buttresses have been removed and the original appearance restored. The site is fascinating and well worth a visit. This is probably the finest... More

Located in the town of Boyle, the abbey has undergone some extensive renovations. Although it is still in ruins, it offers a great glimpse into the life of the Cistercians. The tour was quite informative and interesting ... and it was free! I don't think it would be worth going to Boyle just for the abbey, but since it was... More

The abbey is an impressive example of Cistercian architecture and certainly worth visiting if you are in the Boyle area. The entire site is currently undergoing extensive repair and restoration and when that is finished it should be even more impressive. We stopped at the information desk on the way in (free entrance), and were glad we did, as the... More
