The picturesque lake is surrounded by steep, cliffy mountains in a classical irish horseshoe-shape. The little Island with the chapel in the middle of the lake is one of Irelands most traditional spots. Families will enjoy the asphalted walk s along the seashore and to the Forrest Park a little further. The road ends there, making it very little traffic.... More

I haven't been down to Gougane barra in a year or so, but have been there a number of times. Its a spectacular spot with 2 or 3 marked walks of varying difficulty. The long walk along the road is the least spectacular, but could be done by anyone and the walk up to the eagles nest (I think that's... More

A great place for families - very busy (for the time of year) with families enjoying picnics, etc. at each of the many designated very discreet picnic areas, with children having a great time running through the trees, across streams, down paths, etc. Gougane Barra is a very special place.

We are avid hill walkers and went to gougane barra and ballingeary for 2 nights. This place is stunning. Endless options for walking and cycling on trails, private roads and public roads. Gougane barra's walks are detailed in the forest park. In nearby ballingeary we stayed at a great new b&b called 'Cronins'. The breakfast was excellent and meant we... More

Many different walks of varying levels in this beautiful area. Its only about an hour's drive from cork city which makes it very accessible.
