Our visit to Charles Fort was very informative and interesting, especially the manner in which the fort and others like it were designed. A very pretty location overlooking the bay, an hour or two of nice sightseeing. Leave from Kinsale, walk the Scilly path, and on the way back stop at the Bulman for a pint and some mussels. more

Anyone visiting Kinsale should definitely visit Charles Fort at some point. I've been there a couple of times in the past, but not for a number of years now ... it used to be free entry and now it has a charge, but it's worthwhile as the guided tour is excellent and the our guide was very knowledgable and eager... more

We walked from the town to Charles for (about 45 minutes, some of it a bit strenous) but LOVED the views. We fondly look back on our walk, the views from the fort, and you MUST enjoy a beer at the bar on your way back to town. more

Take the tour and check out the whole exhibit in the main display area. Tour guides are knowledgable and excited to tell you all you ever wanted to know (and more) about the history of this fascinating fort. The best part is you can adventure all around the fort with little being blocked off from visitors. Stop by the Bulman... more

A pen pal of mine, Anais Nin, convinced me to change the name but it didn't matter since it was never published. Back in the... more

My Great Grandfather was Denis Varley who was born in Fairhill, Galway in 1845. In 1865 he enlisted into the 39th Regt of Foot and was sent almost immediately to Bermuda. In 1868 however he was stationed at Fort Charles in Kinsale and research at the Public Records Office revealed many details of his time there. Denis was just an... more

My parents sat, open-mouthed and in shock, this summer as, thirty years on, I told them of my memories of Charles Fort. We took several family summer holidays in Cork, often with a colleague of my father and his family. Their children were older, by several years, than my brother and I, and I don't think my parents had truly... more
