Walked here from Kinsale in the afternoon. Not as well preserved/restored as George Fort across the water but still interesting. There is a beach nearby if you fancy a dip after that walk and a hotel offering refreshments.

If you have time, visit James Fort the sister of Charles Fort. If you only have time for one, I would recommend Charles Fort.

The ruins of James Fort are seconded by the views experienced on approach! Also there is a beach located nearby which is well worth a look!

Very large fort. We were free to roam. Good information available. View breathtaking from ramparts looking out to sea.

A walk around the fort could start or end at the Dock Beach or the footbath on the back end of the Castlepark Marina. For visitors, locals and dogs, alike a walk, run or stroll amidst the fort up and over the hills will bring you views of the bridge and marina, the inner/middle harbour and Kinsale town or a... More

Looking at the sea, walking the dog, walking with my child and his dad, close to the beach. Divine views and a sense of freedom I don't get anywhere else

James fort is sadly closed, but you can have a nice walk around the isthmus and a lovely pint in the Dock pub!. The dock beach is very secluded and family friendly worth a visit !
