We were very impressed with the information on the board by the car park also the castle is in a dramatic setting on the Estuary. Disliked the rain and the barbed wire .The birds with their red legs and bills were a beautiful site.

We found this castle by accident. We picked up a free tourist map from our hotel and it was listed on the map. It was on the way to the Leacanabuaile Fort and Cahergall Fort, why not we said. It was well worth the stop. It is free and you can climb it to see the great bay view. DO... More

OK, I do love a good castle or ruin. This is in a field, so mind the cow and sheep poo and climb under the fences, get your climbing shoes and just enjoy this ruin! This castle featured in the absolutely terrible film, "Leap Year" starring Amy Adams, but don't let that put you off LOL. You can climb all... More

We chose a lovely day to drive to the Ballycarbery Castle ruins, lots of sunshine and got such great pictures. The tide was out however, would love to return and take pictures when the time was in. I love exploring old ruins and this is fantastic! Highly recommended.

I'm in total agreement with the previous review. This castle was fun with a capital F!! The ruins are fantastic and it's possible to get quite high up - not sure how wise this was though - as there really was nothing safe about doing so - but there are so few opportunities to take your life in your own... Ballycarbery was our favorite castle ruins in Ireland, and that is saying a lot! Much of it--almost 3 stories--is mainly in tact, and it is off the beaten track (no buses, no signs or tour guides, no admission fee!) so you can climb around and explore. It's probably not the safest thing in the world, but its pretty neat being... More
