We visited the Beara Peninsula mid March and wanted to get off the beaten path. And boy did we! We drove in a manual rental car and it made it up the pass like a mountain goat. We loved the views and saw lots of sheep. We even saw a lady walking the pass! Very narrow and steep at times,...

Don't miss this magical place. It's a spectacular drive through a very Irish wilderness. Take a picnic and stop somewhere to take in the view.
well worth the trip, and dont forget your camera, the scenery is superb here, beautiful
We came from Adrigole direction. Twisty road climbing up through rocky blanket bog landscape, opens up just over summit to a fantastic view down into the valley and lake and out to sea. If you can - do it from that direction as the view opens in front of you at the best vantage point - greater impact. No matter...

On the Beara Peninsula we drove through possibly the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen, on a road called the Healy Pass , with its kaleidoscopic scenery of steeply rising and sharply falling fields in dozens of shades of green, all dotted with hundreds of cotton balls, sheep really, and a serpentine road. Picturesque beyond belief.
Driving Healy Pass was wonderful. Unfortunatly the weather was taking a turn for the worst and it started getting cloudy, but it was still amazing and we could still make out the lake below on the Co. Kerry side. I can't imagine how beautiful it must be on a clear day! Driving the twisty, narrow road was quite an experience....
