It is an old religious site situated in a sheltered glen where a large volume of spring water continuously wells up from underground. The church was built in the seventeenth century, but there are traces of an even older building. Inside the walls is the tomb of Nicholas White of Clonmel who died in 1622. At the centre of the small lake is a weathered Celtic Cross which dates from early Christian times in Ireland. « less

There is evidence of worship here pre-dating Christianity in Ireland in the trefoil-well. The whole area must have seemed incredibly magic to our ancestors - to see the water (and air) bubbling up the way it does. Seems magical even now.

The well is beautiful, excellent place for photography throughout the year. You can drink the water so be sure to bring a bottle as it doesn't get purer than this. Only take water from the flowing part of the well by the bridge.

Located about less than a kilometre from Marfield's Lake and about 3.5 km from Clonmel town. There's remains of old church and early Christian cross in the middle of fresh water pond. The water from the well supposedly has great healing powers.
