I knew nothing about Workhouse's before my trip to Dunfanaghy. This beautifully restored building is staffed by friendly attentive locals who are happy to chat about the history of the Workhouse, and area. The Wee Hannah Exhibition is heart rending and definitely worth seeing. There is also an excellent collection of souvenirs and tasty treats to be had.

Small...but most interesting. Good audio presentation. Good cafe and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Very small exhibition that will take you 7 or 8 minutes at most. The building / gift shop is great with a very cosy tea room. Very good play park adjacent for kids. But if you're expecting to spend half a day here, think again.

Very interesting on what life was like in "workhouse" times. Nice to see these buildings preserved and restored. A little pricey for what you get, but you don't mind when it aids local projects.

Went with my family so from granny to the baby it was a big age gap but the tour is self guided with interactive headsets and tells the story of a girls life back in famine times. It's a small gallery but I'd recommend to a friend! Grand cafe downstairs serving homemade healthy foods and art gallery and shop and... More

I'm interested in local history so thought this would be worth a visit. went here last year, very tacky cheap looking exhibits, not much to it. Not worth the entry fee.

My wife and I didn’t plan a visit the workhouse. It was one of those serendipitous events that seem to happen to us so often while traveling the countryside in Ireland. We were driving through when we spotted their sign and decided to stop in. We were very happy we did. To hear the tales of one of these tragic... More

My wife and I visited the Workhouse in August '11, expecting a series of static displays which might simply repeat other Great Famine tales. This was radically different and highly innovative, the tour through the only remaining building telling the life story of Wee Hannah Herrity, a local child who survived the Workhouse but who endured ill-treatment when employed by... If you’re ever in Dunfanaghy you must check the workhouse out. The small museum area gives a good description of what life would have been like in Donegal workhouse. The have a lovely little gift school and a fabulous café. If you have younger children they have a great pirate themed play area with a special separate section for toddlers.

Visited the workhouse on 9th aug 11. They tend to wait on a group of people gathering to begin the tour. Three of us waited for ages and eventually were directed to the audio visual displays which form the exhibition. Found it surprising that the none of the people working there could direct us to the Famine graveyard, which is... More
