Ness is owned by the University of Liverpool (staff get free admission). it is a pleasant walk around for a few hours. Excellent tea rooms (not cheap but amazing high teas!)

The superb gardens at Ness on the Wirral Peninsular, overlooking the Dee Estuary were founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley; a Liverpool cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting. Today the stunning 64 acre gardens have won a succession of awards including Large Attraction of the Year for Cheshire and Liverpool City Region and coveted RHS Gold Medal display garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The Horsfall Rushby Visitor Centre provides a warm welcome to this Cheshire Garden of Distinction.Ness Botanische – display garden by TV presenter and garden designer Chris Beardshaw and catering by the multi-award winning Rose’s Tea Rooms. An extensive events programme runs throughout the year.

The gardens are lovely with plenty of variety, formal settings to wild meadows. The views over the Dee estuary to Wales are an added bonus. The Azaleas are all out at the moment and make a stunning display. There's a nice cafe and small shop with a plant shop outside. Well worth a visit.

Many interesting plants. Good views over to Welsh hills/mountains. An excellent cafe/restaurant. If likely to visit mre than once become a "Friend" and make a saving.

Somehow in 45 years of visiting Liverpool we had not got to Ness Gardens on the Wirral, a beautiful area south of the Mersey in Cheshire. Educational as well as pleasant. Good restaurant and facilities, and plenty of exercise in the extensive grounds. Deserves more publicity as it is rather hidden away; knowledge staff on hand to answer most botanical questions. and to inspire you to enhance your own knowledge and experience of gardening.
