In 2011, all guests who spent 3 nights and 4 days at the Flotel saw Jaguars and Giant Otters. Built in 2010, the SouthWild Jaguar Flotel is an air-conditioned, floating hotel with 10 double-occupancy rooms with split air conditioners and en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and never-ending, hot showers. The Flotel’s large, air-conditioned dining room/lounge has picture windows that look out over the wild Pantanal on the mighty Cuiabá River. Additionally, guests can relax in hammocks, sunbathe, or enjoy breakfast, lunch, or after-dinner drinks on the Flotel’s expansive, partially-roofed top deck. The Flotel is run by generators. During the night the generator will be loated away from the Flotel to be less audible. « less

Our goal was to observe Jaguars in the wild. We experienced 10 in 4 days! Additionally, the Giant RIver Otters, Caimans, Capybaras, Toucans, King Fishers, Herons, Bats, etc, etc provided a nonstop display of wildlife. As we experienced the Brazilian Pantanal, the people were wonderful, the food very good, the Caipirinhas delectable and the floating accommodations are undergoing renovations which... More

If you love seeing animals, creatures and birds in the wild, then this is trip is for you. The Jaguar alone is worth the trek. Truly something to behold. My excellent rating is for the wildlife, NOT the accommodations. The accommodations are fun, a memory, but not lux in the least.

I stayed at the SouthWild Jaguar camp with my parents. We stayed on the Jaguar Flotel for 5 nights. The wildlife was amazing. We saw 8 Jaguars during our stay, as well as Giant Otters, Cayman and a myriad of beautiful birds. The guides and boat drivers did an excellent job of sharing information among other boats to maximize our... More

My wife and I stayed at the Jaguar Research Centre / South Wild lodge on the Rio Pixaim as well as the ‘Balsa Hotel’ houseboat used by JRC on the Rio Cuiaba in September 2011. I would recommend both to anyone who is serious about wildlife watching and jaguars in particular. The guides and boat crew were exemplary, the staff... More

It's probably the best place in the world for seeing jaguar. During our stay however we had to sleep on 'boat Horror'.... It was really bad.... Most of the time there was no power. So no lights, airconditioning or hot water. The food was bad and the cabins were not clean (and to small). One day it was raining, the... More

The first thing to say is that the Jaguar Research Centre did deliver - 4 jaguars in the 3 days spent there with 2 of the sightings being some of the greatest wildlife experiences I have had. However the problems came with the accommodation. We expected simple accommodation and we did know that the journey would be long and possibly... More

We had booked directly with this center 12 months previously and had not been notified that the accommodation was no longer in tents, hence we were disappointed to be on a cramped boat with ceilings that a six foot one person scraped (and we are used to boats). The cabin was cramped and since the decks and rooftop were used... More

If you love mammals, birds and earth's wild places, this is a SUPERB trip!!!! Each day a great flavor of a special place! I thought perhaps, with luck, I'd catch a short glimpse of a jaguar and perhaps a few new birds. Imagine my surprise by this post-trip listing: Among our animal sightings: Jaguar (3, with 1 of those for... More

I just spent 15 days at the Jaguar Research Center, or rather their temporary center. We were housed on a roomy houseboat. The food and employees of the houseboat were wonderful! We were out looking for jaguars and whatever else we might see for 10 hours per day in small aluminum fishing boats. Our boat driver was very good at... More
