Somjai and Arjun are great hosts, we stayed the night 14 April had a wonderful time. The monkeys are fantastic and the demonstrations unbelievable. Somjai and Arjun cooked up a delicious meal which was very affordable and traditional. The chalet is basic but very comfortable. It was so much more than we expected. We were highly impressed with these well trained and loved monkeys. If you have the time, please do not miss this opportunity. Absolutely fabulous. If you have the time, you should really consider staying there. Enjoy!

Somjai is a wonderful trainer, and the connexion between her and the monkeys are strong. The demonstration is very interesting and fun. You get to take pictures with them and even try the delicious coconuts! We chose homestay for 2nights, and during this time we were lucky to see 2 demonstrations, which were FREE as visitors came, otherwise it is... More

Dear H&S, Thank you for your valuable review. We appreciate it. And we appreciate your criticism the most! On the first place, our place is isolated, and rural, so you will find dogs barking, noisy roosters, frogs, crickets. We also own a goose, and we can not keep him silent. But if you have complained to us the first night,... More

The couple that runs this place are very friendly. While seeing the monkeys chained up and being trained is sad, you have to sort of accept that it's just the way of life here. They do seem treated well out there. The goose is hilarious. You'll see.

Just 10 km outside of Surat Thani town is the “monkey college”. For 100 baht, you can take a tour and see how they train the monkeys (Pigtail Macaques) how to climb trees, swim and retrieve, collect, and peel coconuts for farmers. Over the course of an hour the monkeys do several demonstrations and there’s more than one opportunity to... More

Thank you for your nice comment! One important correction. A single person pays 300 Baht. The more persons, the lower the price each person. The complete demonstration takes between the 1-1,5 hour, and is equal to the amount of visitors Somjai More

The Monkey Training College at Surat Thani is a wonderful place to stay. Staying there is like a homestay, but on a farm. Somjai and Arjen (thai and dutch) could not be more helpful and are wonderful hosts. They fed us, drove us, suggested tours and just let us enjoy their lovely farm during the 5 days we spent there.... More

The monkey college trains monkeys in an ethical way to learn picking coconuts, still the most effective way to harvest coconuts. While the place has accomodation, we visited only for a couple of hours, before taking the plane to Bangkok. We asked for having lunch and got an excellent one served which we ate together with the sympathetic owners, a... More

We were passing by Surat Thani and decided to visited the monkey college. Definitely a place worth visiting. The owners of the place are very friendly and the presentation was pretty interesting. Make sure to call before visiting the place. They also provide accommodations for overnight stays. Maybe next time we should try them when passing by the town.

We stayed for one night in the homestay, but it was too short. We felt right at home, Arjen and Jay are great people not just for us but also for the monkeys. The animals are good care. Do not expect a circus act, this is reality and fantastic to see how Jai trains the monkeys. The homestay is not... More

We were at Jai and Arjen's farm/monkey school over a year ago, my girlfriend and I, as wwoofers: that is to say we worked on the farm in exchange for our food and lodging (in the neat and cosy bungalow). we stayed for about two weeks during which we helped Arjen with his farming projects: a rubber plantation and a...
