Formidable - we stumbled across this from a distance (across Falaise gap?) Easy walk from town. Really get the 1000-year old feeling. Yes the voice tour did not work really well, though the live animation concept was an appealing one. Most we liked the (dry) moat and the ability to climb to the top for the vantage. Oh and also... what I shall remeber from this is the fantastic restoration job that has been done on the castle. I loved the juxtaposition of the old and modern. I have mixed feelings about the audio tour, as it seemed to be applicable to either William (who was only boen in Falaise, after all) or Normandy as a whole. However, I can... More

We arrived at this attraction on a cold, wet and windy day in April. The thick walls provided shelter, but alas no warmth. Restoration work is in progress on the outside but doesn't detract - the castle is still beautiful. Entrance fees are reasonable at 7.50 Euros per adult and there's no supplementary charge for the headsets although they didn't... More

this castle gives a good indication of why he was the Conqueror stunning. The staff are lovely and there are frequent medieval re-enactments taking place below the castle walls

This is a wonderful historic site and helps make the Battle of Hastings in 1066 more understandable. The information provided is great. The castle is in spectacular shape and beautiful in this historic city especially. The interpretive storytellling is stilted and old-style, made more sterile by a chess game metaphor that simply does not work. The spartan building with no... More

The restoration of the battlements and chateau are excellent. Views from the top of the tower are spectacular, giving panoramic views over the town and the surrounding countryside. Work on restoration of curtain wall is still under way, but the bastion behind the visitor centre is already accessible.

Heavily rebuilt but pretty impressive how they have done this. The castle is set at the top of the town which is really pretty. I didnt like the audio tour, you had to put the headphones in your ears which seemed unhygenic. Also by entering the room you triggered the visual and audio show - not sure how this would... More

It's a few years since we visited this castle whilst we were camping in Falaise, but it was a really wonderful experience - totally different to that of other castles we've been to as the combination of history and technology / ancient & modern meant it was both an informative and fun way of learning about the history of the...
