A trip to Skadar Lake makes a lovely change to the beach on a hot day and the water is so refreshing. You can hire a boat with a captain or take an organised group trip from Virpisar which is a lovely little village on the lake on an island entered over a bridge, with a great restaurant on the... The lake is relatively large with swaps around and you'd love to spend 1-2 hours on the lake with a boat. The border between neighboring Albania passes almost from the middle of the lake, so if you are alone on water in a boat watch out where you are heading to, or at least have your passports to have the... We have been here in the summer 2010. If you look at the lake from Virpazar or where the lake is widely open, it's just a lake (nice and fascinating though). But if you go to Rijeka, it's where it becomes an experience for your soul. Myself and girlfriend have an inflatable kayak, a Sevylor Hudson, we put it in... More

Not sure if we went to a bad part of the lake, but found the whole thing a bit disappointing. We got taken out on a boat which cost £20 per person and saw the 'Montenegrin Alcatraz'. Pretty much only saw about 2 birds. Not something I would personally reccomend spending that amount of money on.

I spent 2 weeks traveling around Montenegro. From the northern mountains, to Tara Canyon, Durmitor National Park and the Bay of Kotor. All of these places are beautiful. But my kayak trip on Skadar Lake blew them all away! The country's tourism tagline is "Wild Beauty" and Skadar Lake by kayak is the definitely of Wild Beauty - sublime water... More

Lake Skadar We moved to montenegro last fall... Lake Skadar, or Skadarsco Yezero, was one of the first places we went to... i think it was magical. Even in fall and winter, it had its own spirit. The serenity and magic was enormous, we felt like we went back in time, and that we were surely going to meet some... More
