Our guide Dave couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Picked us up from our hotel in Valencia and headed off to Albufera. Immediately on getting out of the car next to a small waterway we saw our first ever Bluethroat, followed by Kingfisher, Marsh Harriers, Booted Eagle and many Glossy Ibis...the list goes on and on. 61 varieties in all over both days.
Second day we were taken to a nature reserve near Alicante where the stars were Iberian Grey Shrike and the best of all two Stone Curlew. Marsh Harriers were flying close up hunting over the reed beds and another Booted eagle made an appearance. Western Swamphen, Red Crested Pochard and Marbled Teal were also seen.
We really couldn't recommend this experience more highly and we are planning to come back to do the trip to the high steppe for Eagles and Great Bustard.
Thanks Dave!

This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Valencia! David is so knowledgeable about Valencia and its birds that no matter what your level of experience is, you will leave learning something. We did the Albufera and Mountain excursions on 2 consecutive days and both were incredible. He knows where to go to see the birds you want to see and has access to guide-only blinds at the Albufera. We went in early September during migration season and seeing the birds with their intermediate plumage made them hard to identify. David has done these trips so many times that he knows what birds you'll see and has an incredible eye for the birds in the difficult-to-interpret feathers. David not only identifies them for you, but also explains what he's looking for so you can learn to spot species while you're out in the wild. We cannot recommend these trips enough for people of any experience level. He's a great guide!

We had the most fantastic 2 days with Dave. Being relatively inexperienced made it all the better - Dave was patient and made it really good fun as well as informative. I loved that he shared his knowledge not just of birds but of wildlife conservation and awareness in Spain.
We felt in really safe hands and we learnt so much. Our highlights were the Egyptian vulture, Squacco heron, and a family of little bitterns creeping along the reeds. But with so much that was new to us, it is hard to pick a favourite. All in all, a wonderful 2 days which has ignited a passion for birdwatching in us both. Thanks Dave!

I have a high expectation of a private guide. They must be professional, have an excellent knowledge of their chosen subject, and always turn up on time. A good understanding of english and a decent sense of humour is an added bonus.
David doesn’t just meet these expectations- he excels in all of them. Highly recommended.
After patiently waiting six hours in below freezing temperatures we were rewarded with both magnificent male and female wild Golden Eagles who stayed for 45 minutes. I have wanted to see this magnificent bird for a long time and am indebted to my good friend and birding guide David Warrington of Valencia Birding for making this happen

Stephen,
Many thanks for taking the time to write such a positive review. Your words are much appreciated. It was great to see you again, and I'm happy to know that you agree that the waiting in the cold was well worth it for the views that we had of the eagles! I hope that you're pleased with the photos that you have and I look forward to seeing them soon.
Best wishes,
Dave.

If you are a birding enthusiast and are planning a trip to Valencia, a day with Dave of Valencia Birding is a must. You will find in Dave a birding guide whose only concern is for your experience and pleasure. His knowledge of the history, ecology, environmental struggles and triumphs of the area made the day especially enjoyable. His birding skills are unsurpassed, important to me as I was unfamiliar with most species we saw. He planned visits to various sites in the Albufera including a visit to Tancat de la Pipa, a “green filter” reserve where impurities are removed from the runoff from the rice paddies. We spent the whole day together exploring this unique place, and I can truly say that I enjoyed every minute of it.

David suggested a great rural hotel/restaurant in Biar and met us there. We (my wife and I) went out for the day and saw great bustards (the target for the day) plus flamingos, a little owl, and several dozen other species. David is knows his birds and the area. A great trip.

If you have any nagging doubts/concerns about whether you will be ok with the terrain you might think you will struggle with, where do you go for rest stops, toilet breaks, what do we do about food, those kind of things, how will I get along with my host, in fact any trepidation at all about your trip, then put them at out of your mind at once. Let me assure you, I had all of those reservations too, but Dave’s wonderfully warm, funny, disarming and engaging personality, has an uncanny ability to put you instantly at your ease. He has everything sorted and under control, believe me.
He also has an encyclopaedic knowledge of his subject and of the areas / terrane where you are most likely to see the birds you would like to see. He knows his stuff, he knows his terrain, that’s absolutely for sure and that is so, so important. However, that said, he also has this way of imparting his expertise, in such an understated, none technical and preachy way, that you find yourself asking probably way too many questions, but you never get the impression, ever, that you are bothering him with them. With his enthusiasm for his subject, he is clearly more than happy to answer your questions.
I cannot recommend this birding trip enough, it’s something I had wanted to do for ever, but always managed to find a reason not to. I cannot tell you how glad I am that I did it, I saw birds I had only dreamed of seeing, and I saw some truly stunning landscapes I otherwise would never have seen too. If I may say also, Dave is a top bloke, and I guarantee you will come away thinking you are saying good bye to a mate (and I think I did). In short, it’s the chance of a lifetime, don’t hesitate, just do it, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
PS: Dave also knows some genuinely superb local wines.

Amazing trip, Dave is not only a great birder but a great host, easy to talk to and super knowledgeable, very hot on the day of the experience but Dave tailored it so we avoid the worst of the heat.
Have to say the scenery alone was worth the trip but managed many lifers including Egyptian and Griffin vultures as well as black eared wheaters, booted eagles …
Highlight for me and this will stay with me forever was being taken to the highest peak in area and to witness griffin vultures cruising by at eye level an unbelievable and magical moment.
Many Thanks Dave for truly life affirming experience

Dave is an excellent, highly experienced and knowledgeable birdwatching guide. This trip was planned with my 9 year old son and we were really excited about what we might see. From first email contact, all communication was really prompt and professional. Our coastal wetlands trip far exceeding expectations! In total we saw 61 species including osprey, marbled teal, white headed duck, black necked grebe... Dave really knows his stuff and answered all our questions on birds, the nature reserve and history of the local area. We appreciated his kindness, patience and humour. He let us set the pace and would encourage us to move on to the next spot only after we'd really got to see everything in one place. We planned this trip about a month in advance but would recommend getting in contact as soon as you know dates to ensure availability. We'll definitely book another trip when back in Valencia.
