If you are staying in Cairns, this is one thing youi should do. We drove to the butterfly sancutuary in the morning - something I also recommend - then did the wait a while tour in the afternoon and evening. We went on the day/night rainforest tour (2pm to 11pm) with Clayton as our guide and had a fascinating time! We saw so much wildlife from wallabies and a huge variety of birds to a tree kangaroo, musky rat kangaroo, lots of possums, lemurs, barn owl , echidna, tree frogs, and a duck-billed platypus. If you want to see some cool animals and learn about the rainforest while you're in Cairns, this is the trip for you. We really loved it and were very lucky in that we saw so many animals on our trip (tree kangaroos (3!), playtpus (4!), possum (4-5 species), fruit bats (tons), wallabies (tons), bandicoot(1) lots of birds!). My 8 year old son was desperate to see a platypus on our visit to Australia. We contacted this company and were told they had seen platypus every time bar one in the last 6 months. We were collected from our hotel in Cairns around 3pm and returned around 11pm so it's a long tour but my son loved every... more

We were picked up at our Cairns hotel at 2:00 pm. Went not far out of the city and saw spectacled flying fox bats, and wallabys. Stopped various other places to see platypus, saw shelled turtles, and Boyd's water dragon. Went for tea at Lake Barraine and for a short rainforest walk.
