Must see in Hobart is to visit Mt Wellington. I drove up this time but many years ago I did hike up and discovered I was scared of heights. But it was worth it. The views are absolutely spectacular. If you go up in winter take very warm clothing for the top which I forgot to do this time.

Wonderful views from the top of the mountain, snow possible in most seasons. Toilets basic, a single viewing cabin for shelter so take a warm jacket. Try some of the bushwalks on the way back, and stop at the Fern Tree Wildside Cafe on the way back for well earned hot chocolate or coffee.

I can see 'our' Mountain in all it's moods from my house. I go up there to walk often. My favourite time is in the winter. We get these amazing high pressure systems when it is sunny with not a breath of wind, (normally it's very blowy and chilly up there). It's gorgeous! you can see so much, all of... More

Well worth a visit, and only takes a couple of hours out of your day. We took a small coach up Mt Wellington (about a half hour drive) from the Hobart Visitor Centre. The roads up Mt Wellington are very narrow, steep and winding, so if you're not fond of heights or are prone to vertigo, sit on the left... More

On a clear day it would offer a great view of Tasmania. Our visit included fog and horizontal snow. But it was a nice drive.

Don't forget to wear something warm if you decide to visit Mount Wellington, as it can get very cold at the peak. It can take up to half an hour to drive from the base to the peak of the mountain and the roads are very narrow and steep, so you will need a head for heights! The views are... More

I live in Hobart and take the local sights for granted (probably like locals everywhere). However, I really enjoy Mount Wellington and should spend more time up there. We recently drove up the mountain on a fine autumn day and were rewarded by finding pockets of snow at the summit. The views are breathtaking and provide a fantastic panorama of... More
