What a beautiful region of Australia. Scenery to die for and plenty of interesting things to see. It's well worth a trip.

We enjoyed just driving around looking at the scenery and stopping in the towns just to look at the shops.
There are lots of lovely things to see in the Dandenong ranges. Lots of beautiful cafes and restaurants and great walks and shops to browse in. Spend the day or a couple of days in one of the beautiful bed and breakfast places available.
We visited the Dandenongs twice, one on a bus tour and the second time on the Puffing Billy. Next year going to drive through the region and stop and see more things

A definite must is the...

The National Rhododendron Gardens in Olinda are unusual and very beautiful if you go at that right time of the year. Otherwise the Dandenongs will probably seem overrated to anyone who's familiar with the wet forests of northern Australia or Tasmania.
Went up for mothers day and had Devonshire tea at a lovely converted church. Theres some really nice walks as well that you forget are so close to Melb
