We went on the Blackwater Rafting Compay's 'Black Abyss Tour' in Mar 08. Even tho' the water was 'low' it was awesome! 5 hours of underground adventure! Quick word on the Waitomo caves...We did the normal cave tour and we felt it was pretty over-rated. The staff have done a lot of hard work finding out odd-shaped stalactites and stlagmites which might resemble something (incl. elephant, inverted elephant, mother and child, old man etc etc) and keep showing them to tourists, but after 5 mins you realise... more

Did the 45 minute tour of the caves and it was the biggest waste of $35 dollars I have ever spent on an attraction. They do a three hour tour for $55 that I heard was a million times better. Unless you really love glow-worms DO NOT do the 45 minute tour. Just a waste of time! more

I undertook the Glowworm and Caves Tour arranged by Spellbound Limited. The tour lasted about 3½ hours and included tea and biscuits. Very good on a cold Winters day!
