My husband & I visit aquariums in most of the places that we travel. I really wanted to see the penguins, so we opted to visit Kelly Tarlton's on our way out of Auckland. It was small enough that it took just under an hour to see everything at a liesurely pace. The snow cat ride through the penguin habitat... more

This attraction is not as good as many similar ones we have visited. It is quite small. Overall it feels a bit tired. There is nothing particularly special about the underwater viewing tunnel (no unusual species that you wont see elsewhere really). The penguins (via the snow cat ride) are cute but we found their enclosure to be a bit... more

Kelly Tarlton's is a short drive from Auckland city centre, located in the former water treatment plant, but don't let that put you off because it has been an ingenious transformation. The first stage is an interesting and informative museum-style series of displays with tales of Antarctic exploration. After this there is an open area of tanks with wonderful specie... more

I enrolled for the Shark Survival adventure tour at Kelly Tarlton's and the experience was just fantastic. Together with the two of us from Malaysia, there were also an American from Salt Lake City and another Australian. All agreed that the adventure tour was good value for money although it seemed pricey at first read. Rebecca, our dive master, was... more

My wife and I visited Kelly Tarltons in August 2007. We were greatly disappointed with our experience for the following reasons: 1. The shuttle bus was far too small and ran far too infrequently for the number of passengers who wanted to use it. 2. The entry price was very very expensive. 3. The snowcat is a neat concept but... more

My wife and I were recently in Auckland for a few days and a trip to Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World was included with our half day tour of the city. We live in San Diego and hold annual passes to Sea World which is probably one of the best marine parks in the world and I am... more

Both friends and guidebooks highly recommended Kelly Tarltons but what a waste of time and money. You can only view the penguins from the bobcat ride through glass. The orca whale attraction wasn't working. We spotted dead fish lying on the perspex tunnel over the moving walkway. The cafe was a joke with kids making a mess all over the... more

Kelly Tarltons is expensive ($28 full price) for what it offers. Had it been about $15 then I would be a lot happier with my experience. We tried to catch the free shuttle that they had advertised which leaves every hour from Skytower. Well, shuttle arrives, 11 seats, 23 people. Guess who got left behind, all the people with little... more

Had high expectations, as Kelly Tarlton's is well-known in New Zealand as a must-see aquarium. Initial impressions weren't good - a busy day and only one person at the ticket counter, so long queues in a dark, stuffy entry ramp, with no seats. We had a discount voucher, so ticket price was approx. $25 each. Was surprised how small the... more

I'm an antarctic history buff and so I quite enjoyed seeing the replica of Robert Scott's hut. And I was impressed by the size of the penguin colony and the apparent good care that the animals receive. I recognize that keeping these (and the other) animals healthy and fit requires a good bit of money for clean housing, good food,... more
