My Husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks exchange Timeshare at Busby Manor, Paihia Bay of Islands New Zealand, was our third visit there, and we will keep going back, because we love it, is like going home!!!!! This trip, we were booked in a 2broom unit for the first week, & 1broom the second week. The manager of Busby Manor made it possible for us to stay in the larger unit for the whole 2 weeks, amazing. Sharon Jo & Lara, do all things possible to make your stay most enjoyable, well done Girls!!!!!! Busby Manor is ideally located, with the beach just out front, we love the location, you can walk to the shops in Paihia, restraunts nearby. The resort is lovely, and very comfortable, units well maintained, and excellent beds. There is a pool and hot spa in the garden, the grounds are kept lovely with nice gardens. There is a lot to do in the area, while there we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary, and went on an overnight cruise on the Ipipiri cruise boat, a really wonderful experience for a special occasion. so we really recommend Busby Manor, you will have a great holiday there, with a host of interesting things to do. We had a 4 hour fishing trip on 4th Jan 2014 - there were 9 of us on the boat and we only caught 5 fish (which i know is out of their control) However, the guy we had on our boat did not seem very friendly - he sat down with his girfriend most of the time! It would have been nice to have a better, more exciting atmousphere on the boat. He barely spoke to any of us...I would book with someone else if i return in the future, not because of the lack of fish caught on that day, but because i am sure there are other boats out there with friendlier staff...which is a shame because i booked this trip months before we arrived in NZ and they were fine over email - i guess not everyone is a people person, but i think when you offer these sort of trips you need to be.

Arline are no longer operating and the website address directed us to anglers anonymous who took the family snapper fishing today. A fabulous morning with the sea and scenery ideal . Saw dolphins and penguins along the way. We were not disappointed with the fishing . Soon hooking into plenty of snapper some very large. Even caught gurnard and a kingfish. The team went the extra to find the fish and extended the time while the fish were biting We came back well satisfied , with plenty of fresh snapper for dinner. Very comfortable boat well organised trip.

The fishing trip was our first activity of our honeymoon (some might say a strange way to spend it!) but we had a fantastic day. The water was calm and thankfully the fish were biting. Murray and Terry made sure that we were baited up and helped us get the fish in. We walked away with about 2 kilos of Snapper fillets. Would defintely recommend this tour to anyone. Thanks for the day fellas!

Believe it or not you are not the first couple to join us on the first day of the honeymoon. Recently we had the pleasure of taking a couple out on their wedding anniversary so keep us in mind should you get the urge.
Many thanks for the review and we're glad you enjoyed the trip (and fish).
Regards
Murray

We had a fantastic day out on the water with Murray and Terry. Two men with a wealth of knowledge of not only the local fishing but also the history of the Bay of Islands. We fished in a nice sheltered spot (very successfully!) as we watched other charters power out into rough swells only to return a short time later. The fishing was awesome with all sorts of fish being pulled in, the best value for money of all the charters in the Bay of Islands, we went home with a big bag of snapper fillets which were delicous!
Thank you very much Terry and Murray for a memorable day on the water,
Andy and Jo

We're glad you enjoyed your time out with us and hopefully it took your mind off the continuously moving ground back home for a while. You definitely got one of our best days fishing during that week.
Many thanks for taking the time to send in a review.

The day dawned slightly overcast, we were greated at the boat by a smiling skipper (Murray), a quick trip over to Russell to pick up the ballance of the fisho's and we were away. We took a cut lunch and drinks with us and there is plenty of clean dry storage to leave your lunch and camera etc while you fish, and fish we did!
It was a great day, plenty of fish in a nice calm sheltered location, the gear that was provided was all good quality, as were the fish, some good sized snapper as well as a few kahawai a trev and a very nice dory. Murray even fileted all the fish for us, we came home with nearly 4kg of fillets. All in all an awesome day out on the water, very good value.
Cheers

Thanks for your review. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the trip. The fishing was pretty awesome for this time of the year and you definitely got a great day for it. Hopefully we can recreate the fishing if the weather behaves and we can get you out on the team building trip (3rd time lucky) in June.

What a great trip! It was my brother's birthday on Feb. 23rd so all of us celebrated by fishing with Arline's and having a fish Barb-B-Q that night! The 6 of us from New York were joined by 2 Kiwis on board (Tony and Brent) and had a great time. What a wonderful day interacting with the crew and everyone on board! Once I understood that 'tiles' means 'tails' when being instructed on baiting the hook I was all set. The trip, crew, company was absolutely wonderful....do not miss out on this experience.

I enjoyed having your family on board. After your comments about house sharing and meeting the locals, I was glad that we had a couple of outgoing Kiwis on board as well. The dynamics between the groups seemed to work well.
The reminder about the "tiles" brought a smile to my face but I still think that we aren't the ones with the accent :-)
Thanks for choosing us and thanks for the review.

Murray is the best: pleasant, entertaining, and he knows how to catch these fish. The boat Captain, Jake is a fishing machine. I fished 2 days in a row with Arline. The boat is very stable (the waters in the bay are inherently stable so if you get sea sick in big swells don’t worry about it!) Murray warned us that the fishing was off in the couple of days before my trip and would have let me get out of going but no way: as they say, a day not catching fish is STILL better than a day at the office! They fish for snappers like we fish for Rock Cod back in NorCal, so it took no time to get going. The snappers taste fantastic but I had more fun catching the Kahawai. Kahawai were brand new to me, coming from the US. These guys look a bit like a salmon from up top and they fight like them, with long ripping runs. Murray says most don’t eat them except smoked. I fried one up with salt pepper and lemon and it was good-though you gotta be sure to get rid of the gray fat. The fat- not so good. The boat has a small head, and there is dry storage for your gear and lunch. He was using newer gear, a nice change from some of the SF Bay Area share charters! Also the price! I won’t quote it in case stuff changes on Murray but it was a great deal. Cheaper than the local competition and way cheaper than back home and Murray was not all anal about bookings- as long as he has 4 paying customers he goes out. If he doesn’t get 4 he will get you on another boat if they have room. Murray also didn’t charge to filet- nice! He gave cooking tips and pointed us to restaurants that would cook our catch. All of the other fisher folk were great, everyone chatted and compared lives, a great family atmosphere. Bring your lunch and water and a good attitude and you will have a ball!

One thing that has always amazed me is how fast everyone settles in and introduces themselves to everyone else. The interaction and willingness to get involved makes most trips an absolute pleasure for me as well.
I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip with us and thanks for the fantastic review.

Murray
P.S. The fishing machine was Terry not Jake but you are right he is a bit of a machine at times.

I went out on a great day on the Arline. And while the fish were a little reluctant to bite in their usual large numbers/sizes on that day, the relaxed friendliness and professionalism of Murray (the owner/deckhand) and Terry (the skipper) was one of the nicest experiences of all the many fishing charters I've ever been on. And the fish tasted great too!
Well done chaps!

Thanks for your review (I'm not allowed to mention reviewers names.) I wish that we could've produced better fish but not even Terry's magic touch can produce hordes of big hungry Snapper every time. I'm glad that you appreciate our efforts though. It was a pleasure having you on board.
