We accidentally went to this thinking it was Te Puia, because Te Puia used to be called Whakarewarewa. We got a rude shock after attending mostly excellent attractions all the way around New Zealand. We caught the guided tour, which was unenthusiastic and at times just plain rude. We really agree with the reviewer below who said they felt like... more

To be honest, the best part of this reserve was the sweetcorn that was cooked in the boiling hot water! It was delicious! Everything else was pretty average. Our family of four adults visited in Nov 2006 and found the Village to be a waste of time and very unprofessional. Admission (NZ $23) comes with a guided tour by a Maori village person. The second stop on the tour is a coin toss into a river. Village teenagers dive into the river to retrieve your money. According to... more

This is okay, but not one of the best thermal reserves in Rotorua. It has a lot of steam and pools. The most interesting part is that a Maori village is built on the thermal reserve and they use the pools to cook food. We took a guided tour through the reserve, which added a lot of perspective, otherwise we... more
