Have just got back from the Wai-o-Tapu.... all I can say is WOW!! This is a must see while you are in Rotorua... or even in the North Island as a whole! We got there at 10.20am in time to watch the Geyser errupt! I thought this would be a natural thing but somebody adds soap to it in order... more

This is an excellent attraction, the geyser and mud pool interesting, and the walks beautiful and offering lots of different types of thermal displays. Its a beautitful walk that was even managed by our 2.5 year old who was fascinated. She fell asleep on the walk back though and we wished we brought the pram, even though you need to... more

Having spent an afternoon at Te Puia watching a geyser erupt naturally, we decided to skip Wai-o-tapu’s Lady Knox geyser and see the main part of the park while everyone else was at the geyser. What a choice. It was like having the park to ourselves. It was a great experience walking thru the steam and formations by ourselves. As... more

This is the best geothermal attraction in Rotorua. Be prepared for the smell and don't stand in the "steam" as you will get the full aroma of rotten egg gas! Every sight is very interesting with things ranging from boiling mud to a boiling lake and a lime green lake. All the sights are close to each other and the... more

We liked this the best of the few thermal parks we visited. The Devils bath has to be seen to be believed. Also the champagne pool was WOW! We did tracks 1, 2 and 3 with kids 9, 7 and 2 and it was do-able, some carrying of the little one but do-able. The colours here were the most spectacular. more

We went on an organised tour from Rotorua but it could easily be done from Taupo too. The landscapes are spectacular. You definitely need to be able bodied to see the park though as its quite hilly and there is lots of uneven ground and steps. The lady knox was a bit of a let down as they have to... more

We knew Wai-o-tapu would be memorable but it is really like another world. We got to hike thru a steaming collection of craters and hot springs. The different colors swirling around were the very surprising. The park was separated into 3 separate paths for those that do not want walk the entire length which we did comfortably within 2 hours.... more

This thermal reserve was amazing and is one of the top places I'd recommend to visit on the North Island. It is well worth spending a good half day to take your time wandering around - there are 3 walking loops, the third isn't as user friendly (some slopes, less man made paths, more stones to hop across) but the... more

Were we're aware that the Lady Knox geyser went off at 10.15 so got to the park early. The geyser is actually off the site a short way (it is a 2/3 minute drive) but you ticket allows you to go into the park, leave to see the geyser and come back. Having been to White Island in the preceeding... more

We were very impressed with this geothermal wonderland. Champaigne pool especially was astonishing with its vivid colors and bubbling water. So was the all-green Devil's bath. Definitely a must see if you are in the Rotorua area. I would think once this is added to your itinerary the other stuff such as Waimangu can be skipped if you are short... more
