The walk around these grounds is simply stunning. Never had I witnessed nature's awe so close as when I was at the thermal grounds. The bubbling mud makes you fear Mother Nature's powerful abilities. If you have time to spare or arrive at the right time, you may witness one of the many geysers spewing up. more

The tour of the Thermal Wonderland & Waimangu Volcanic Valley located a short drive outside of Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand, was a great experience. The tour guide (Robbie) for Elight Adventures was friendly, knowledgeable, & went out of his way to help those on the tour. The hot springs, mud baths & geysers were a photographer's... more

I visited there with family from the UK in August last year - my cousin said "this is the highlight of my trip" - it really is an amazing place to visit - the colours, walks and the aroma. I'm going again this weekend (12/4/8) more

We had half a day in Rotorua to take in a geothermal activity and were recommended Waiotapu by our hostel. One of the main attractions is Lady Knox Geyser, which goes off daily. The geyser is induced by a member of staff at a set time for the pleasure of the assembled crowd. The height is impressive - but don't... more

Actually visited this place some years ago - but the impression it left upon me was huge! I lalways explain my experience there as being the nearest to being on another world! We arrived just 15 minutes before closing time and we were told to make our own way out by the side entrance when finished. There was only one... more

This is probably the best of the thermal attractions in the Rotorua area, and certainly the most varied, with curiosities at every turn. There are sulphur vents, a geyser, silica terraces, and beautiful pools in multiple colours, coloured by minerals bubbling up from the earth's crust - these have to be seen to be believed, photos don't usually do them... more

Thoroughly enjoyed Waiotapu. A nice walk with many different geothermal sights and colours to see. The lime green of one pool is just like in a photo posted here. The whole place is very different and need not take too long if you're in a hurry. The souvenir shop is very well stocked with quality merchandise. more

Went to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland just south of Rotorua for our view of the geysers and such. Out hotel managers recommended that above the ones close to their establishment and it was quite interesting. Had a variety of steaming vents, bubbling and spitting mud pools, and craters and pools filled with different colors of water. The Lady Knox Geyser is... more

October 2006, weather humid/damp and drizzly, sun did try to break out, went with my hubby, teenage daughter, toddler and infant in pushchair, this attraction is about 20 mins from central Rotorua, we arrived late afternoon and mised the 'eruption' of the Lady Knox Geyser that blows everyday at 10.15, but we had seen one the day before at Te... more

We visited at a very busy time of year (late December, holiday period) but it did not seem crowded generally. However, the Lady Knox geyser is very popular indeed, and because it is only set off once a day at 10.15am, this does get very crowded. The reason for this is that it is on a separate site, a few... more
