We got the Mitai experience combo, with a night time walk through Rainbow Springs. Had a pretty good time in the Mitai village, our host was very entertaining. The food was great, especially the lamb! The cultural show was also quite good, although it did feel a little ameteur-ish - some of their tribal tattoos started to rub off by... More

Being tangata whenua, we were a bit apprehensive about paying over a hundred dollars for something which we thought we could see back at our own marae. It just showed how much we take our special culture for granted. It was a great experience watching a show of Maori culture through the eyes of the tourist. The fee includes transport... More

I live in Kenya, so I understand the idea of having your culture stolen by outsiders and trying to preserve it by creating a show of it. As much as I hate being part of tourist groups, this particular "show" was definitely worth the money. The food was just okay (chicken was dry, but my boyfriend tells me the lamb... More

While it was an entertaining evening, it was poorly organized, the food was only okay, and the stage show seemed like a high school production. We went on a rainy evening, and being shuffled from one area to the next, with little cover, made for a wet evening. The Hangi was paired with a visit to the nearby Kiwi enclosure,... More

While we were initially feeling very conservative about *splurging* on this tour, our B&B Host encouraged us to do it. "Do you plan to return here again soon?" she asked with a smile. We took her up on her advice, and thanked her profusely for her suggestion when we saw her the next morning. One of the Mitai Maori Village... More

Genuine insite into Maori culture. Host was entertaining and we were amazed by his knowledge of the 19 different nationalities of all guests in attendance. He spoke the most basic greetings/language of 18 of the 19 nationalities! - mind boggling - but I suppose he's been doing this for many years. The Maori sing/dance/warrior performances were riveting and sometimes even... More

The basic organisation at The Mitai is poor. The Master of Ceremonies was poor and was rude to some of the guests. The Hangi was only average. The show however was excellent ! More a tourist trap than a Maori experience !

My son and I had a dinner and performance at Mitae. I chose it because it is family owned and run. Seeing the guys in the canoe coming down the stream was an amazing experience. Lovely hangi dinner, great MC and plenty to see. Very intense haka at the end of the performance.

We loved this place. The host was an amazing man who made everyone feel welcome, knew how to say welcome in just about every language and was very entertaining. Do not arrive starving. They have some crackers, etc., then it is off to see the hangi uncovered, then a walk in the forest to see the warriors come in on... More
