Zealandia is a fantastic place that you would never expect in Wellington. It's an easy 25 minute walk from the top of the Cable Car (or buses leave from down town Wellington) and is well sign posted. We were lucky enough to have a beautifully sunny day and were told all about the routes on offer and available tours on... more

I'd heard (and read) that Karori Wildlife Sanctuary (aka Zealandia) was an oasis in the city, but boy was I surprised when I realised how BIG it is! Did a night tour a few years back and saw two kiwi which is a special... more

Wonderful place. I spent a whole day there and it was precious. Saw lots of nice birds, (hips of tuis of course, but also kakas, hihis, wekas and saddlebacks). Also saw a tuatara, which by itself was worth the whole thing. Didn't stop to see giant wetas as I'm not really a big fun of bugs ;-) but if you... more

WE spent about 3 hrs in this reserve. In total we saw 8 birds - none of then rare and one type of insect. The walk was through typical NZ bush - beautiful but nothing that you could not find on many of of the walks here. What is in abundance are poison traps - you will see these easily... more
