Our 12 year old son is a huge Ghost Hunter's International fan so my family was intrigued when we learned at dinner that our stable room was reportedly haunted by a young boy. A beautiful and adventurous drive on the peninsula right around the waters edge. Castle has beautiful grounds, small in size and the only one in the country. Drive around the whole peninsula and definitely go up to the Castle. We opted to just walk the grounds and not to take the interior tour. more

This was a charm we came across when planning a south island road trip. We booked into 'the pink room'. The room had a divine view, and the rooms were cozy and well thought out. Would definitely stay again. more

The Castle is well worth visiting, but it makes sence to stay there, as your tour price is included in the accommodation cost. Also it's a hairy drive up onto the top of the Otago Peninsula, so you need a break before heading down again! The turret is worth climbing, fo a magnificent view. This attraction was worthwhile given limited alternatives in Dunedin. The story behind the family was interesting. The gardens were nice - although not as large as we had expected. The castle itself is interesting - although needs more restoration. It is a little overpriced but I guess castles are expensive to maintain. more

I loved Larnach Castle. The inside of the castle was beautiful - lots of gorgeous wood paneling. But the reason I really loved it was the gardens. They were in full bloom in November when we visited.
