We had relatives mention Olveston as a place to see when in Dunedin, originally our plans didn't include it. We turned up just before midday to have a look, not realising it was by guided tour only. Very nice place to visit. Great set up of the house, it's in perfect condition and the tour guide is very informative. Wouldn't advise taking young kids as there is a lot, and i mean a lot, of breakables and very expensive items they could even accidently break. The gardens are beautiful and kept in great condition. You need to book for this tour. We went on the 9.30am session. The tour was about 45 minutes and cost NZ$15. There were either two or three groups of 10 people doing it at that time. Olverston was an awesome tour, I loved it!! Some amazing pictures and all the families bits and pieces really look like they have popped out to the garden to collect herbs for the evening meal.
