The Centre offers visitors a wonderful opportunity to see the remarkable Royal Albatross close-up. Of course good sightings are not guaranteed - you are relying on nature after all, that's the point! And as for complaints about the cost - remember that you are visiting one of the rarest birds in the world - it's not supposed to be a... more

We visited the albatross colony first week of May 2009, we were told there was no guarantee to see an adult, but we would see 2-3 chicks in the grass from the hide. As we were going up the hill, an adult albatross circled the hill twice, then by the time we arrived in the hide at the top of... more

On March 16th 2009, my family and I had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Albatross Centre on the Otago peninsula, near Dunedin. After the film, we were taken up the hill to the observation room. It was crowded, and we could only... more

Firstly, we were shown a video, before being marched up a steep hill to an observation building. At this point we were informed that we would NOT be seeing any of... more

Seeing an albatross in your local museum is an interesting experience as they are such large birds but it is difficult to imagine them in the wild. As the only mainland colony in the world the Royal Albatross Centre not too far from Dunedin on the Otago peninsula is a must see attraction. As you drive up to the centre... more
