I went Albatross, Sea lions and penguins watching with Elm Wildlife tour in Dunedin. I love the trip especially when we went climbing up the hill bracing the cold wind (winter!!) then down to be greeted by the curious looking sealion colony!! We then had the oppportunity to be 'up close and personal' with some of them. Penguins watching also... More

The title says it all. Elm Wildlife gives you the best wildlife tour in NZ! We saw albatross, Yellow Eyed penguins, more seals than you can count, many rare sea lions and lots of water birds - some unique to NZ. Elm takes you to unspoiled beaches that they have exclusive access to. Be aware, that some walking down and... More

We chose the Peninsula Encounters tour with the added Albatross Centre visit. The Albatross Centre was a bit disappointing. You only spend about 30 minutes there, viewing a few Albatross chicks. I would recommend either skipping it, or doing it on your own, separate from the tour. However, the rest of the tour was excellent. We got to see Penguins,... More

This company was amazing. Their tour was one of the best experiences of our lives. They are very friendly, knowledgeable, and just good people. We did the standard Peninsula Encounter tour and it was perfect. I'm not going to ruin the experience by describing what we saw, but we saw part of the world that I'll never see again. We... More

Our guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We were impressed by the private access and the care they took to provide habitat and ensure the animals weren't bothered by us.

Thank you for your review. All of our guides are passionate about NZ and the animals so for them the job is the perfect job. Yes the hills are a bit of a challenge and we are pleased that you thought the tour was good value for money. Regards and happy travels Shaun More

A great afternoon at one with wildlife. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, very enthusiastic and generally interested in preserving the homes of the local wildlife. Be prepared for walking up hills, but its all definitely worth the effort. It was $99 pr person but considering the cos of other tours we felt this was definitely good value for money... More

We booked a tour with Elm Wildlife Tours through Kyle Davidson, one of the owners of Kaimata Retreat. Please see our separate review of Kaimata, as it was a wonderful experience. Because of our scheduling with a very early flight, we could not do the 6-9pm tour that had been booked for us. When we discussed our dilemma with Kyle,... More

Thank you for your very kind and generous testimonial. Yes it was a day to remember, and the photos taken are testament to that. I have loaded a couple of the sea lions mating into our gallery but I am sure you have enough of your own to flick through. Kind regards and happy travels Shaun More

This was a very good tour of the Otago Peninsula. The guide was extremely well informed and enthusiastic. We had wonderful close up opportunities to see sea lions, seals and penguins. Much of the tour was on private land which only Elm tours has access to. It was so interesting to see sheep living side by side with native fauna... More

Thank you for your review. Yes it is strange to see penguins and sheep side by side, a sight we often see. A funny sight we don't always see is when a penguin and a sheep have a dispute over territory. A bit of a one sided affair. Yes the hills are a challenge but as you found out, not... More

I'm so glad we chose to take this tour as you gain access to private beaches where you get up close to rare yellow eyed penguins. You also see seals and sealions. There is a very steep hill walk involved where my immediate reaction was 'you're having a laugh' but its worth it. The weather was against us on the... More

I'm so happy I did this tour. The stunning beauty of the Otago Peninsula is one thing... but the up-close and personal encounters you get with wildlife is the best part. You get to see yellow-eyed penguins, royal albatross, blue penguins, sea lion colonies, and numerous other species of endemic birds. The guide was energetic and enthusiastic, and he even... More
