We did the fly/cruise/fly option. There's also a bus/cruise/fly and a bus/cruise/bus option. If you haven't done much driving in the New Zealand mountains, then the bus/cruise/fly option might be a better value. We were blown away by the scenery on the 30 - 45 minute flight to Milford Sound. We did a fly in/cruise/coach out tour of Milford Sound - flying from Queenstown. The views from the plane were absolutely stunning, as were those from the boat and the bus trip out of the sound. If time is short, I'd recommend flying both ways as the bus trip takes 5 hours. more
