The Lake can be taken as a day visit on its own from Queenstown or visited on the way to Doubtful Sound. Snowcovered mountains surround the locked in lake with so many photo opportunities and history to be learnt. Hopefully it will remain safe from tourist resort developers.

A wonderful lake which makes a lovely lakeshore for Te Anau, the little town on the border.

While we weren't in town long we definitely spent our fair share of time walking the lake. For dinner one night we grab a couple of meat pies and some wine and had a little picnic by the lake. It was great. The next morning while walking the lake we came upon 2 rainbows.

We liked the food, our motel (motels in NZ are nothing like the US...they are much nicer!), the people, the town and the gorgeous view of the lake in the morning.

Do not miss the sunrise or sunset at Lake Te Anau, they are fantastic. I was there in the Autumn so they are pretty late around 8am so they are much easier to see. The lake itself can be walked a good length and has mountains all around. A lovely place

Just surprised there were so few people on this beautiful lake, our boat skipper was very informative

a walk along this lake side near our motel was just the most peaceful experience

An excellent place to call off and stay at (B&B) before making the 2 hour journey to Milford Sound
