before you go to the Museum, duck over by ferry to Stockton and have a meal or coffee at some of the great little eateries there; then on return, walk along the board-walk via the Brewery, pizza Restaurants, Bars, groovy apartments.. to the Museum ! gorgeous views and a very relaxing thing to do. Why not visit the " Lock-Up"... More

The Newcastle Museum is a must for first-time visitors to this interesting city. It covers Newcastle's tumultuous two centuries by showcasing everything from earthquake rubble to footballs and a fully restored electric tram. Located in a collection of old railway workshops, the building captures Newcastle's former industrial might and hints at its bright & cosmopolitan future.

Really well presented museun. feels modern and fun. Super interactive space with lots to do for all ages. No chance of the kids getting bored her. We even got to lift a car. They even have areas that can be hired for private functions. We have been at least 3 times this year. :)

This is not your typical museum where you wander around the displays, hands behind your back, as you strain to read the small print on the information plates and decide whether you really want to check out the Ancient Egypt section or head straight for the mounted butterflies just for a bit of colour. The science section is a hands... More

A perfect weekend activity for families. My kids loved the interactive activities and I, as a newcomer to Newcastle, loved learning about my new home. The BHP exhibition was definately a highlight!

We have been to the Newcastle Museum a couple of times before, I is great for seeing how the mining for coal has gone on over the years, there are two cargo boats a day leave Newcastle full of coal bound for China. The museum has three floors of the history of the area.

It is amazing that this place is free - we enjoyed a few hours there over the school holidays and kids had a ball.  The interactive exhibitions are great fun for the kids and adults alike.  We also paid $15 to see the Dinosaur Egg exhibition which was well worth it!  We will definately be back!!

On a recent trip to Newcastle my wife and I visited the relatively new Newcastle Museum. The museum is located in some rennovated railway workshops close to Civic station and on the Honeysuckle waterfront. The free city bus passes close by. The museum displays the history of Newcastle in an interesting, fresh and uncluttered way. Many years ago we had... More

The museum is located on the foreshore in Newcastle and is surrounded by cafes and eateries to refuel after your visit. The museum is not large, but it does provide a nice snapshop of Newcastle history with some great exhibits. The story of BHP and it's impact on the steel city is featured in a large and absorbing exhibit which... More
