There's a statue "conservatory" in the gardens that is well worth a look - it's a lovely glass and iron domed structure and inside under the dome there is a larger than life white marble statue of a family group called "Flight From Pompei". These Gardens lack the botanical diversity of Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, but the smaller Ballarat example is famous for other reasons. There are busts of Australia's Prime Ministers since Federation. From time to time, some have been smashed by drunken louts but the busts are much admired locally.
