Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Following the disastrous floods that inundated the Northern Rivers region, the Lismore Regional Art Gallery is in a process of recovery. The intricate Hannah Cabinet, which is estimated to be worth more than $1 million, is in a process of restoration. Many art works, including those created before 1800, cannot be valued, as they are usually held in public collections and are rarely traded. The people in the Northern Rivers region are rallying behind the Gallery, as it recovers from this unprecedented natural disaster.

In Februrary 2022, Lismore was inundated by the largest flood ever recorded. The Wilson River rose to 14.7 metres (48 feet), reaching just below the roof-line of the Lismore Regional Gallery. Although the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales is flood prone, this was an exceptional event. Many prized exhibits, including the intricate Hannah Cabinet, will require extensive restoration. The Regional Gallery is a cultural hub for the Northern Rivers area; the complete restoration of the gallery and collection will require a concerted effort,

What a lovely space and excellently curated set of beautiful pieces. The high point is the Hannah Cabinet and you can book for a demonstration opening. It's an astonishing piece of locally produced marquetry and cabinet making that is truly awe inspiring.
The reason for our attendance was the Koori Mail Aboriginal Art prize. What struck me was the brilliance of the work in that show, spread as it was across a few rooms and supplemented with pieces from the gallery's own collection. Truly wonderful art for this inaugural event.
There was a complementary exhibition of mixed and multi media installations and more by an amazing artist that I can no longer remember the name of about the indigenous experience.
Another very enjoyable installation from gay artist Mr Pink.
Constantly changing exhibitions. Performance art in the quad outside. Nice cafe in a lovely, repurposed early 20th century building that forms an arts precinct with the NNSW Conservatorium and more.

It was very pleasing to see how the old Lismore High School site has been transformed into the city's cultural hub, opened in late 2017, the home of the Lismore Library and Regional Gallery separated by the grassy quadrangle known as The Quad. The architectually modernised gallery was a delight to visit, we had come primarily to join a tour of the most impressive Hannah Cabinet; a must for any visit, book online so not to miss out.
Afterwards we explored the two levels of the gallery viewing the temporary art collections. I can also recommend Slate Cafe on the ground floor overlooking the Quad. Parking is available at the back of the complex off Dawson Street.

Great cafe and a lovely friendly art gallery with some amazing contemporary art. The Hannah Cabinet was fabulous and well worth visiting. Try and go when the cabinet is opened. Truely amazing.

We went to the gallery with a friend who lives locally. Wow we were so glad we did. To see Geoff Hannah’s cabinet close up and be there for the tour that opened the drawers was very special. In all our travels around the world we haven’t seen something made with such skill and care. So pleased the money is nearly raised to keep it in Australia. The latest “jewellery box” was also outstanding. The stone and woodwork was exceptional. The display also has his students work . So pleased he cares enough to pass on his knowledge through teaching others. What a great Australian. Deserves his Order of Australian recognition
Overall we enjoyed the gallery. Good light and access

This was my classroom when I was at teachers college. Great to see it repurposed so well. The artworks were varied and displayed in an excellent manner. Nothing was too high or too far away so you could appreciate the finer detail in all the pieces.
The exhibitions change regularly so you can go for repeat visits and see new things.
The cafe downstairs provides excellent food made from mainly local produce
The gallery is set right in the center of town in what is gradually becoming a gathering place where people can sit on the grass or the benches and enjoy a little peace and quiet.

The main reason I Have been to the Lismore Regional Gallery twice is to see the 'Hannah Cabinet'
If for no other reason visitors to Lismore need to pop in and see it.
Most Wednesdays there is a talk and a demonstration of how it was made and to see nearly all the drawers opened, to see the fine marquetry and to appreciate the skills of Geoff Hannah.
