Fabulous collection, beautifully exhibited in an extraordinary adaptation of primitive architecture cantilevered out over one of the "hoces" of Cuenca. Not to be missed. Well documented, well worth the trip to this central city and it's other "old town" sites.

Interesting art - but the building was also beautifully done up and is actually in one of the hanging houses. The entry price, and prices in the gift shop were surprisingly cheap.

Fernando Zobel was a Filipino who was born in Manila in 1924. He was a member of a very prominent family. In 1946 he studied history and literature in Harvard and graduated magna laude in 1949. He started painting and was influenced by the works of Mark Rothko and took up modernism and abstract expressionism. Later he moved to Cuenca... More

If you like mod/cont art, this is a must visit museum in Spain, well worth a special trip to Cuenca, a dramatic city in itself. But this review is for the person who doesn't like or hasn't experienced that kind of art. This is the perfect place to try it or give it a second chance. One. the museum is... More

The museum occupies many floors in a couple of adjoining buildings, so there are quite a few stairs (I did not look to see if there was an elevator). The paintings, collages and sculpted art are well laid out and lit, and there are plenty of places to stop and contemplate the works on display. The views out of the... More

Free museums are always good, Cuenca has lots of good, cheap, contemporary art museums but this was the best, a building with lots of little rooms over 4 (maybe 5 or 6) levels - really hard to tell, a couple of Warhols and a Picasso, but lots of interesting Spanish modern art. As with all of Cuenca fantastic views out... More

This gallery was fantastic. Firstly the location is stunning - inside one of the 'hanging houses' of Cuenca. The interior is starkly modern, making for a great contrast to the exterior of the building. The artworks are beautifully hung, and the views from the windows are terrific. We saw a selection of little-known Picasso pen and ink sketches, accompanied by... More

Only a few art experts have even heard of Cuenca, but between the attraction of the Museum of Abstract Art and the Hotel Leonor de Aquitania, my boyfriend insisted it was worth the side trip out of Madrid (on the Madrid-Valencia train line) on our October 2006 trip to Spain. In the middle of desolate and empty countryside, there is... More

If you love modern art, in a beautiful building, with magnificent views to match the magnificent Tapies, Chillida, and other art, do not miss a trip to this wonderful town on the side of a mountain. After a wonderful art tour of Spain and its great museums, and having never heard of this museum, or for that matter, Cuenca, I... More
