About
Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 5,049 animals and 676 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 13 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too.

- DylanSt Helens, United Kingdom10 contributionsA really good zooThis is a great zoo, with a number of animals and ability to roam around. We went on a cold day (it was snowing) but we still got to see a number of the animals. Many of the enclosures have indoor and outdoor sections so if the animal was not outside you could go and see it inside. We saw the elephants being looked after in their indoor accommodation and had good fun with the gorillas.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 March 2023
- Madeline K4 contributionshuge zooWe had a lovely time at this zoo, it’s massive and took the whole day for us to walk around. There are lots of places to get food and lots of toilets, clear maps and signs to find your way around. The cable car was fun, and took you to the top of the zoo. Although some of the animals hadn’t been let out into their outdoor spaces you could still view them inside. Overall it was a great day!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 April 2023
- Dingbat1982Midsomer Norton, United Kingdom676 contributionsAmazing zooWe travelled most of the way by tram and then walked the last 20 minutes to the zoo. There was a long queue at the main entrance but a member of staff was there advising people to walk to one of the other two entrances (north or south). We walked to the south entrance and went straight in. Family ticket price is about £30 so really reasonable and worth every penny. The zoo has so much to do, loads of different animals and play areas as well as the chair lifts (approx £5 one way). Lots of places to eat, shops and toilets. Saw the penguins being fed. Really brilliant day out, so glad we visited. Got the bus back from outside the zoo then changed to the tram. Really east travel.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2023
- Ognyan S7 contributionsAmazing zooBest zoo I’ve been to. You get close to so many different animals and it is a good time for both kids and adults. Things like the infrastructure, the surrounding nature, the lift and some of the indoor centres make this zoo standout. It is also really big and one visit might not be enough to see everything.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 April 2023
- Jon DBristol, United Kingdom273 contributionsTop class zooWonderful zoo just on the outskirts of Prague so about 15mins drive from the old town centre. Was told to plan 3 hours but you need 4-5 hours to fully appreciate this amazing place. The guide is well worth the 5KR fee and easy to navigate around although i recommend the cable car journey up to the top otherwise a long steep walk is in order. The zoo was clean, spacious and animals were of a fantastic variety and all looked well cared for.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 May 2023
- AdyWiltonWilton, United Kingdom92 contributionsBetter than you average Zoo.I’m not a great fan of zoos and don’t often visit them as animals should really be free and out in the wild, not locked up behind bars. That said, captive breeding programmes are perhaps the last chance to try and prevent extinction through poaching and man’s greed at the expense of nature, and Prague Zoo does tick that box. It is huge - we were there walking around for nearly four hours - but it is still depressing to see Polar Bears going around in circles (a new much larger enclosure is being built), tiny cages for many birds, sea lions going backwards and forwards doing ‘lengths’ in their pool and other animals that should be at home on the African Savanna, stuck in a field. There are many restaurants and snack bars; the toilets are clean; there are facts, figures and other notes about every animal to educate visitors; everything is very well signposted and accessible, and together with the breeding programme I feel I can just about give 4 stars. There are many worse zoos out there but this is one of the better ones.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 May 2023
- Jeroen WLaren, The Netherlands36 contributionsSpot the different tigers!Generally people don't go to Prague to visit the zoo; it is more beer and medieval jousting type of place. But, boy, was the zoo a pleasant surprise. We have been to zoo's all over the world, but Prague is definitely a favourite for us now. Fantastically kept grounds, amazing animal enclosures (the giraffe and elephant grounds are truly stunning). This is where you find all three tiger families and spot the differences. The old chairlift to the top is a must do. Highly recommended.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 30 May 2023
- JennyCopenhagen, Denmark8 contributionsGreat place! We loved it!😍We loved it! Zoo was big and there was many animals. I read that it’s hard to see animals, but it was easy for us. There is a alot of restaurants/coffee places/souvenirs shops, so not a need to be prepared with own things. It was 14€, so it was cheap. Very nice place. U need your best walking shoes because it’s BIG. :-)Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 June 2023
- ctripadHawaii52 contributionsLots of walking but worth itThe largest zoo I have ever been to. Apparently rated in the top ten in the world. They have larger areas for the animals living space so you walk further for some attractions. Lots of " up close" animal attractions such as for birds where you enter a area where there is no cage screens separating you from the birds living environment. We got there at opening and only saw maybe 3/4 of zoo by late afternoon but we were tired so returned home. Its worth the entrance fee price.Visited June 2023Written 24 June 2023
- Sue PBurgess Hill, United Kingdom489 contributionsBrilliant ZooWe have visited many zoos and this is one of the best. It is very big and steep in places so comfortable shoes needed. We were so impressed with the silver back gorilla, the younger one living with his ladies. (There are 2 separate enclosures each with a silverback) All the animals are very well cared for and have space. If you can spare time to spend most of the day, as it can't be rushed, we highly recommended this. If you are a senior take photo ID. We had copies of passports with us. My husband is over 70 and got in for 1 Koruna, I am 67 and got in for 1/2 price.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 June 2023

Loads of animals never seen before, big zoo which had almost everything to offer there. Extremely well priced compared to UK Zoos.

It seemed to us that the ZOO has doubled in size and in the number of animals in 5 years since we last visited.
Family ticket is 1000CZK and it’s well worth it. We were there for 6 hours and could have stayed longer. I recommend buying a map at the entrance (20CZK if I remember correctly) because it’s a large area and it goes uphill.
We had lunch in a restaurant Golab and we were pleasantly surprised because we had low expectations (food in Zoo’s are usually poor quality and overpriced) bit it was quite delicious - especially Thai chicken and reasonably priced.
Don’t miss the ZOO when visiting Prague!!

Loved it and definitely worth visiting. As we went in January a lot of animals were inside or weren't even there and probably at another zoo. The indoor cages seemed slightly small but you could see they had more space behind them that the public couldn't see into. Despite this, the outdoor enclosures are massive and the animals clearly have so much space and are attended to very well. It probably is amazing here in the summer. It was also really cheap to get in compared to prices at home (roughly £11 in Prague and about £35 in England). A lot of restaurants etc were closed probably to save money in the quieter months so I'd say definitely worth a visit in spring before it gets too busy in the summer.

Great day out, the zoo is huge. We had a great day apart from when it started raining but luckily we saw quite a lot of the zoo .
Would be great if they put some arrows on the floor with best route to walk . We wanted a map but the machine wasn’t working to purchase one.
Some amazing beautiful animals. All look well cared for.
This is one of the best zoos I’ve been to in Europe. Really liked the rainforest type enclosures.
Definitely recommend a visit if you like animals

This zoo is amazing. The best I’ve been to. Be prepared for lots of walking but it’s worth it. Enclosures were all clean and easy to see all the animals. A great day out.

Unfortunately my visit was ruined by a very rude and obnoxious female staff member at the exit of the zoo on 18-1-2024. Zoo itself was quite amazing and animals were incredible such as the polar bear, Tigers, lions and orangutans. We were very happy with the day until
We asked a simple question upon the exit of the zoo and was met with a very incompetent and hostile young female. It left a terrible taste in my mouth.

We do love a zoo! We are members of Chester in the Uk and didn’t think we’d find Prague to be on the same level but it was superb.
It’s a large zoo with so much to see! We were lucky when we visited as it was a dry mild December day and the zoo was so quiet. The animals were all well looked after with good sized enclosure. My favourite had to be the goats, just the best enclosure ever!! We had the most enjoyable day and would highly recommend visiting, such great value for money. It’s out of the city but we got an Uber to and fro.

Excellent, even in winter on a cold day. Well worth a visit, entrance fee is very modest.
All animals were well looked after, plus the zoo is investing in the future with new enclosures.

Is it possible to see the pangolins? I’m hoping to take my daughter in November all the way from the Uk because she is absolutely obsessed with them.

We went in January and people told us not to visit the zoo because it would be too cold to see the animals. But we went and we saw all the animals that were sheltered in special places, especially tropical animals were in special warm places. So i think you will be able to see the pangolins in whatever month you decide to go.

How much of the Zoo is in pavilions/enclosed areas? I want to bring my dog but I am afraid that we would miss a lot of it/have to keep leaving him tied up outside. Thank you!

Buona vacanza
