We took a bus from Krakow to Osweicm then walked from the stop just outside the gates to the Museum Welcome Center. We bought an English speaking tour (3-hrs) that included Auschwitz 1 and Birkenau (shuttle between sites) The guide had headphones which helped to listen to her in a group of 10-people. We chose a tour so we could... more

Firstly, let me say that it is very difficult to rate the overall expeariance, as how do you rate such a harrowing thing and the resting place of over a million souls? So, I have rated it on its 'museum' like ability to inform. We were initially going to travel by bus to the Auschwitz camp, but after reading about... more

There is no real need to join an organised tour of Auschwitz..If you are staying in Krakow then you can join the public bus at Krakow bus station and pay about £4 return. On arrival at Auschwitcz 1 you can buy a small booklet telling about both camps and giving a detailed map of both sites. As you walk through... more

I have a very strong interest and very strong feelings about the Holocaust. The Auschwitz Museum has become one of the many stops on the tourist trail and whilst one welcomes the exposure the Museum gives to the Holocaust to those who maybe didn't understand what the Nazis and their friends did to millions of people, it also risks turning... more

A must see if you're in Krakow. One of the most disturbing places on earth. I have read various books on this place but its sheer size stunned me. I booked a tour before leaving the UK and it was well worth the money (about £35 including transport) but you can book in the centre of Krakow. more

After reading reviews, we decided to go independantly to visit Auschitz-Birkenau. Before we left home, I researched different taxi services and went with Krakow Direct.com. I emailed them before I left home and they were waiting for us at the airport in Krakow. They took us out to Auschwitz the next day, waited for us and then down to Birkenau... more

As powerful a sight as anything to do with the Holocaust, Auschwitz I by itself takes days to read about all of the people that were affected. It is all about the people who were there, those who survived it, and those who perished. Even so, you don't get the full scope of things. It is a fairly small camp,... more

There are many companies offering trips to the Auschwitz I and Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camps. However, like many others on this site, I can confirm that the best way to visit is by catching a bus from the main Krakow bus station. This costs 20zl return fare (£4). As you stand facing the main Krakow railway station, in the left-hand... more
