We went here in Dec 09. We didnt want to spend a long tine there so booked for the state rooms and private apartments. The tour of the private rooms was great - with a really good guide who made it much more alive. Clearly the furnishings arent original and actually it brings it back how difficult it was for... more

The Wawel Royal Castle is better viewed as a complex of exhibits/attractions on Wawel Hill. This review will contain everything but the Cathedral (see separate review). Access: Most people will enter at the ramped entryway on Idziego St. with a ticket office to your right in a small gated house. You are given the option of seeing any of six... more

As castles are not much good if anyone can 'access' them, as a wheelchair user I emailed the castle in advance to check accessability and was told that there is a lift and I would be able to access with ease the Royal State Rooms Exhibition; Royal Private Apartments Exhibition; Lost Wawel Exhibition; but Crown Treasury and Armoury only partly... more

I visited Wawel today, in deepest, darkest February. On the plus side, it was pretty quiet with the exception of a couple of school parties running amok. I bought tickets for the State Apartments and Private Apartments for a total of 33PLN and a ticket for the Cathedral for 10PLN. The State Apartments were a disappointment. As a previous reviewer... more

There is a lot to see at Wawel -- magnificent architecture, wonderful statues... the castle itself is huge, and maybe it would have been beneficial to go on a tour, as I was slightly unsure about what I was looking at. more

A fascinating place with so much history over the last 800 years or so. Worth seeing and getting a guide. Cracow Planet do excellent private tours which kept 2 adults and a 7 year old entralled for 4 hours going around the castle and the cathedral. Not a cheap option but we learned so much. We saw the Royal Apartments,... more

If you're going to spend some time in the Wawel complex, I'd suggest visiting the Royal Apartments rather than the State apartments - they contain very similar artefacts, and the former are explained by a guide who might speak your language - our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and good English skills. The State apartments have no guides and the... more

Although it was cheap to visit the castle we found it disappointing, esp the state rooms and the dragons lair!! The gounds were lovely and the cathedral was nice but I wouldn't go out my way to see this again. If you have lots of things planned for when you got to Krakow, don't worry if you can't fit a... more

We spent a morning wandering around the Castle area last March. We arrived early and booked into a tour of the apartments which was timed about 1 1/2 hours later. Meanwhile we had coffee and cake at a small tearoom nearby and then visited the Cathedral. It was as expected - big, dark and a bit scary! Then it was... more

The Wawel grounds are beautiful and the setting majestic. It is irritating that you have to buy tickets one place for everywhere, and the place does get completely overrun with school groups. The State Rooms were beautiful, especially the ceilings but I think if you want to learn anything a guided tour would be a good idea, as the information... more
