For people who are interested in the history of the Jewish population of Krakow and their culture, this is a must. This area used to be a run down part of town populated by vagrants but remnants of its pre-war role as a vibrant, fully functioning Jewish district still remained. Hebrew writing, stars of David adorned the peeling plaster of... more

I made several trips to Kazimierz during my 8 days in Krakow. The first was on a private walking tour of the historical areas of the town and from then on I was hooked. This area of Krakow (which will most likely not remain “hidden” with more of these gushing reviews) can be appreciated on multiple levels. Historically, there is... more

This square and its surrounding streets have some of the "guide book" pubs but they have a good atmosphere and thoroughly worth a visit. This is not a stag doo venue. One of the most unusual things was that most of the bars were candle-lit and there was very few electrical lights on show. I never found out if this... more

I must say that the most interesting part of Krakow is in my opinion KAZIMIERZ, the Old Jewish Quarter. This place offers an exceptional atmosphere. It is full of tea and coffee houses as well as restaurants. By the way, eating out in Kazimierz is so much better than around the Main Square. I really recommend staying away from the... more

It would be a shame to visit Krakow and not go to Kazimierz, although I imagine many people do. By chance I booked a hotel on Midowa (Aparthotel Spatz). On our first night we predictably headed towards the Market Square, but after that we pottered around the streets taking in the numerous bars and restaurants, admiring the wonderful buildings and... more

The Jewish Quarter is ancient, charming, and emerging as a hip, casual place for young people in Krakow. The synagogues and book stores on Jewish life in Krakow are fascinating, but we actually enjoyed strolling the streets and checking out the great selection of cafes, coffee houses and restaurants that were devoid of the young drunk Brits who seem to... more

Start the trail at the North end of Szeroka. It was a hot day when we visited. We had just come from Nowa Huta on the No19 tram and then the No9. (Do get one of the 2 day bus/tram/museum passes for 50zls.) Visit the "New" Jewish cemetery first. Although Szeroka is very atmospheric, we stopped for a gazpacho soup... more

It helps to know where you're going, so take a look at the photo that I've added, which is a map of the Jewish Heritage Route. There are three parts of this review: REMUH SYNAGOGUE, GALICIA MUSEUM, and MIODOWA STREET REMUH SYNAGOGUE I don't recommend the Remu (or Remuh) Synagogue unless you have a special reason or connection to visiting... more

Parts of Schindler's List were filmed in Kazimierz, although I hadn't seen the movie when I was there. I didn't really know places to go, things to see, or what I was looking for. I would really have liked to see a Jewish museum of some sort, but I wasn't in Krakow for long so I didn't have time to... more

Fantastic for a sunday morning wander to see a little bit more of the real Krakow. Lively atmosphere, good food and bars and interesting history. We went there twice it was so good!! Defintely worth a night out to get away from the main tourist spots and into somewhere more authentic. more
