Seeing Zygmunt's Column, you knew you were in the Castle Square. An impressive column with an interesting story. Do read up on the many statues and monuments before visiting them to have a better understanding of what you are seeing. This particular "Corinthian" column has had many reconstructions however it stays as a main focus in the square.

Kolumna Zygmunta or Sigismund's Column in English is one of the many landmarks in Warsaw one should see. It was erected in 1644, shot down and badly damaged by Germans in 1944 only to be erected again after the war. Statue was restored, however the column was destroyed beyond repair, and replaced.
