I'm always amazed at how artists can find innovative ways to subtley communicate moods and feelings. There is a definite feeling of loss when you look at these bronzed shoes, a sense of time stolen. It's not heavy and oppressive so a trip to the shoes is still a good idea if you're looking for a fun vacation. Just set... More

The iron shoes nailed on the promenade along the danube is a very sad memorial of the world war atrocities committed on jews. I am surprised, there was no placard to highlight the sculpture there. It was just by chance that we happened to pass-by on our way to the parliament Sad so very sad...

Although not well known; and only discovered on our 3rd trip; this is not to be missed. Only 3 min walk from the Parliament building on the promenade; this really brings history into life and whilst sad, has to be experienced.

The memorial is on the bank of the Danube River on the Pest side, between Chain Bridge & Parliament Buildings. It honours the Jews who were killed by the fascist Arrow Cross militiamen during WWII. The Jews were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the... More

a very touching memorial, which must be followed by a visit to the grand synagogue which once held up to 3,700 parishioners. One has to think of the misery of the last sabbaths when so many jews left the synagogue not knowing what would be in store during the coming week. So sad.

It was extremely windy along the banks of the Danube, and it's a bit of a hike to get to, but there is a nice vista of the castle area on the other side, and the shoes are a reminder of an unfortunate time in the city's history.

The most moving experience of my trip. All types of shoes and look like that have just been removed form feet! Very lifelike, and vary tearful when you understand the full story. Not difficult at all to find, just by the parliament building on the riverside

difficult to reach but located just south of the Parliament building along the wall on the Danube. Very touching. Very little written about this and it was dedicated in 2005 which tells you something right there.
