A guidebook calls this castle Hungary's Alamo, and after reading up in it, I would have to agree. The castle itself is amazing. We were there on the beginning of what I would call a "Renaissance Festival". There were people dressed in period clothing, entertainment acts, arts and crafts sellers, and things like that. When you first see Eger castle from Dobo Istvan Ter, you think "wow-awesome". It really is one of those picture perfect views. After a short uphill walk (we did it with two 71 year olds and a toddler in a pram), you reach the ticket office. Here you have 2 choices: a 600Ft ticket for the castle grounds or a... more

Well, you will see it if you go to Eger - its on a hill and a bit hard to miss. At the ticket booth we encountered what I think used to be a pretty typical attitude on the part of Hungarians - a complete inability to make change, and an attitude of being insulted that you would DARE even... more
