The position in the town is perfect... In a hill over town... The views are very good. The castle is very normal if you compare with other similar castle in other places around world. Perhaps in Hungry is a wonderfull castle, but nothig compared with spanish, french or scothis castle. But is a main point to visit in Eger. Very... More

There are more museums, a nice panorama. It is in the centre of the town.

For the displays of preserved history and the general well kept state of the facility, this castle is worth a visit. The views of the city and surrounding countryside are tremendous in and of themselves. As I learned, with all other things in Eger, if you don't have a command of either Hungarian or German, you can expect some communication... More

A must see for all history fans and kids. You get to go down to the dungeons. If you visit the castle, it is well worth joining a guided tour.

Probably it is one of the most important Hungarian castles. Located close to the city centre, on a very imposing rocky hill. Very impressive walls, gates and bastions. Also interesting Roman and Gothic relict of the church. Absolutely amazing view. Internal guiding is poor. Staff barely speaks other languages. Minimum, if any, info. People somehow knew this and quietly waited,... More

They say this castle is one of the most romantic in the countryside of Hungary. It stands above the town and it is actually not like a typical medieval castle although it was completed in the 15th century. The castle can be found very easy from the main square. These guys really tried to make that place interesting with exhibitions.... More

This castle is one of those places we Aussies dream about because of the sheer age of the place - over 500 years old! Sure the ticket system is complicated but you're in Hungary and you'll get used to that with everything. We did the tour of the crypt and the underground passages which was quite interesting but be aware,... More

A guidebook calls this castle Hungary's Alamo, and after reading up in it, I would have to agree. The castle itself is amazing. We were there on the beginning of what I would call a "Renaissance Festival". There were people dressed in period clothing, entertainment acts, arts and crafts sellers, and things like that. At the desk where you pay... More

When you first see Eger castle from Dobo Istvan Ter, you think "wow-awesome". It really is one of those picture perfect views. After a short uphill walk (we did it with two 71 year olds and a toddler in a pram), you reach the ticket office. Here you have 2 choices: a 600Ft ticket for the castle grounds or a... More

Well, you will see it if you go to Eger - its on a hill and a bit hard to miss. At the ticket booth we encountered what I think used to be a pretty typical attitude on the part of Hungarians - a complete inability to make change, and an attitude of being insulted that you would DARE even... More
