Sud u book a fency hotel or friendly family bad&breakfast, lake Balaton is the best place to spend ur family vacation. Kids will love the shallow water, hungarian snacks and ice cream, while parents can explore the regions lovely wine with goulash or fish soup. I just returned from a wonderful trip to the lake region of Balaton. Two hours from Budapest, it is near the wonderful university town of Vesprem. Emily Pozdena was our excellent tour guide. We spent three day there, and wished it was much longer. Emily arranged spacious accomadations at the lake for our party of four people. We went sailing... More

This is Central Europe's largest lake and is breathtaking! You have to visit the Lake whilst travelling in Hungary. It is massive so there is no shortage of activities, accommodation, restaurants and beaches. The season picks up in late May with the Lake at its best (albeit busiest) during the summer. Hire out an apartment or house and relax in... More

Choose from many of the small towns dotted around the lake and go cycling. We halted at Gyenesdias at a pension and the family was so adorable. Rented bikes from them and cycled for almost 50 kms in a day :)

I loved the area around Balaton. I visited Keszthely, a small town near Balaton which reminds me of the pitoresques town near the sea. The center of the town is a pietonal area with small shops, cafees and restaurants and at the end of the boulevard there is a big map on a wall to help you guide yourself, and... More

We have visited Hungary several times and absolutely love Lake Balaton. Its attractions are quite diverse one side of the lake being more commercial and the other more traditional. We particularly like Balatonfured and Tihany. There are many places to stay around the lake and the Wellness hotels are a particular favourite of ours. Hungarian cuisine is delightful and of... More

We traveled up the west coast of Lake Balaton for about 25 miles from Keszthely which is on the southern tip of the lake. Our goal was to see the small towns, resorts and houses on that side of the lake. We stopped at a beach with several shops and 2 restaurants for lunch and found that one of the... More

We made already new plans for next year summer, 2 weeks in the same place, same period, more families with children in the same town "Csopak" in the north-west of the Lake Balaton. A small town nearby the lake with a beach where you have to pay for entering and for every age is there someting to do or relax.... More

This lake is beautiful as ever. Be very selective when finding accomodations. If you expect decent rooms you must choose 4 star or higher if you can even find it. We live in the US so we are accustomed to the level of service that a Sheraton, Marriott or Hilton provides. This seems difficult to find here. The lake is... More
