You have to stop in the square to see the buildings and the weathervane and the massive square. But it's filled with restaurants and shops and isn't the best spot to experience Tallinn.

ancient market hall gives great backdrop to restaurants & craft market

The market square is classic. The town hall, shops activities all center around here. Start here walk up the hill to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and come back down for a quick meal, drink and break. Head in any other direction and begin again.

this is the heart of old town, very cosy and colourfull place, with many small restorans, shops, etc. nice to spend time day and night

The area is a buzz with tourists and locals and the overall experience is lovely. Take a coffee and cake and enjoy.

This is very much like eastern europe, large squares that allow the community to use for whatever function they need. A few restaurants for the weary traveller to rest and indulge in some light refreshment.
