We were in the Latvian capital for six for the Riga Marathon, verywell organized and popular with visitors and locals alike. Reasonably priced and entirely visible without the use of any means of transport.

This is something you should not miss. Really amazing old town with wall to wall restaurants, and incredible architecture.

Riga is a beautiful place. I expected it to be over run with stag do muppets. It wasn't it was friendly and nice. I loved the old squares, I loved the cobbles, I loved the buildings. I will be back to enjoy it at my own pace.

What I found more fascinationg was the old wine seller bar just around the corner from the City hall area. Also, despite the fact that some of the bulidings in the old city are new, they have a fascinating view within the town

the spirit of the Middle Ages. many small restaurants.

cobblestones make the girls walk on pumps. maybe it was the time of the year (May) but there were not too many tourists. One of the best things of the old town is the lack of advertisements on walls.

Very impresive old houses and museums. Especially interested is Museum of Ocupattion 1940 - 1991.

Old city in Riga is ok. It's small (you will walk across it in 15 min if you hurry up), feels a bit commercial with all tourists and souvenir shops, but there are some very nice parts as well. I would recommend to take a tour to hear more about the history and to make sure you don't miss any... More
